Being an important stop on the ancient Silk Road, Dunhuang is now a county-level city in Gansu Province and is best known for the Mogao Grottoes. Situated at an oasis with Mingsha Mountain and Crescent Lake, Dunhuang also boasts the Yumen Pass built in the Western Han Dynasty (202 BC-9 AD) and the distinctive Yardang Landform Park.
