Over 2,000 people participated in an event to promote Guangchangwu (square dancing) to help refresh citizens' body and mind in a marathon theme park in Lanzhou, capital city of Gansu province, on July 9, 2017.

A new square dance advocated by the publicity authorities of the city's Chengguan district has been performed in the event and provided the good experience to those who practice them.

Over 2,000 people from all walks of life making up 90 teams wore colorful costumes or clothes with 'core values.' They attract crowds of spectators by wearing colorful costumes and dancing in sprightly dance steps.

Liu Dingzhu, vice president of Lanzhou Musicians Association and executive member of the Chinese Music Literature Association, was invited to be the writer of the music and write the lyrics.

The lyrics embodying the socialist core values are familiar to most people and intuitively clear. The music being combined with popular music rises into the favor of dances.

As a low-cost, convenient physical exercise for many women, Guangchangwu has become a popular recreational activity across China.
