Lanzhou ranked 40th in traffic congestion among 100 major Chinese cities in online map service provider Amap's third quarter report, in comparison to its worst ranking of fourth and a fifth position in the same period last year.
According to Amap's urban transportation reports, Lanzhou's congestion ranking continued to drop this year, from the 22th in the first quarter to the 33th in the second and eventually to the 40th in the third, when the average running speed during off-peak period increased 10.9 percent from last year to reach 27.2 kilometer per hour.
The city's public security bureau contributed the most to the ease of traffic congestion by introducing information technology to build a smart traffic control system.
