The city of Lanzhou in Gansu Province has stepped up innovation-driven strategy and deepened reforms on scientific and technological systems over past years, making scientific innovation a new engine for economic growth.
In 2017, the scientific progress contributed 55.6 percent to Lanzhou’s economic growth and the ownership quantity of invention patents reached 10.77 per 10,000 people in the city.
There are now 304 high-tech enterprises in Lanzhou and the added value of strategic emerging industries accounts for 14 percent of GDP in the city. Lanzhou has 27 universities and colleges, 84 research and development institutes, one national lab and eight national key labs, being an important scientific and technological base in northwest China.
The Lanzhou Baiyin National Innovation Demonstration Area was approved to be constructed by the State Council on February 1, 2018. Lanzhou plans to seize the opportunity and attract more scientific personnel and businesses to promote innovation in the city.
