The city of Lanzhou, capital of Gansu Province, received 3.9 million tourists in the first half of this year, up by 14.03 percent year on year, according to the Gansu Rural Tourism and Poverty Alleviation Conference held on August 9. The tourism revenue totaled 959 million yuan during the same period.
The rural tourism has become a propeller for poverty alleviation and economic growth, according to the conference. There are now two provincial-level tourism demonstration villages and eight tourism demonstration towns, and 1900 farmhouse resorts in Lanzhou. It helped lift 850 low-income rural families out of poverty and created 3500 job opportunities for local villagers.
