The total population of Han people in Lanzhou totals around 3.4568 million and those belonging to minority groups count 159,300, among whom the Hui people accounted for 78 percent.

According to the 2010 census, Lanzhou is home to 3,616,163 inhabitants, who hail from 56 ethnic groups, especially the Han, Hui, Dongxiang and Yugu ethnic groups.
