The Lanzhou Steles Forest, extending 400 meters among ridges and peaks, lies on top of the hills on the northern bank of the Yellow River. The pseudo-classical architectural complex, containing stele corridors and pavilions, exhibits calligraphy works, stone rubbings and tablet inscriptions related to life in China's ancient northwestern area. The statuary of renowned calligrapher Zhang Zhi (?-192 A.D.), a Gansu native, stands inside the museum as a reminder of his great achievements in the field of calligraphy.
