The Waterwheel Garden, covering an area of 55,900 square meters, is a famous national 4A tourist attraction located on the southern bank of the Yellow River in Lanzhou. It features the culture of the Lanzhou waterwheel, which was invented in 1556 by Duan Xu, a local official. The ancient device uses flowing or falling water to create power through paddles mounted around a wheel. The waterwheel promoted the agricultural and social development in Lanzhou at that time.
