On delicate chinaware, a gentle Bodhisattva was drawn according to Dunhuang frescoes by Zhou Mi.

At the age of 55, Zhou had worked in a heritage institution for many years. Her hobby of making Dunhuang frescoes on chinaware stemmed from her work about Dunhuang culture.

Based on her rich experience of visiting the Mogao Grottoes,Zhou started making these works since 1980s. At first, she could just engrave simple lines without any color. Now she can manage the hammer easily when she was talking to the journalist. Instead of brushes, blades cannot draw everything and they need to meet the colors as well.

Few months ago, Zhou won the title of Gansu folk artist by her masterpiece, a tea set named flying Apsaras. However, she thought more exploration is still needed in this field.

Sculpture Porcelain is a traditional skill with long history. It differs from other artistries because it’s the combination of painting and sculpture.

At present, Zhou’s works only sale in a Lanzhou store with limited amount. She worried the market due to the long making time. Opening an online store for personalized customization is her present plan.
