The general plan of Lanzhou New Area has been revised and enhanced, with more emphasis laid on the blending of production, life and ecology.

According to the revised edition, the planned area of Lanzhou New Area totals 1750 square kilometers, with the construction area totaling 246 square kilometers. The planned population is expected to reach 1 million by 2030.

The ratio of habitation and public service area will be improved and an ecological green land system will be established. The public service facilities covering business, medical care, sports, cultural education and parks will be enhanced. The Great Wall Film Silk Road Cultural Heritage Museum, the Chinese Civilization Innovation Demonstration Park, the Lanzhou New Area Comprehensive Bonded Area, a transportation hub for airline and railway are all planned to be built in the new area.

The new area plans to develop six industrial chains, namely petrochemical, equipment and manufacturing, electronic information, photovoltaic, bio-medicine and water paint industries.
