Lanzhou New Area, which is about 40 miles away from Lanzhou city, and covers 1.7 thousand square kilometers, is the only state-level development zone in northwest China.

Since its establishment in 2010, the new area has attracted a group of high-end manufacturing enterprises to boost its economy.

Li Rui is the secretary of Lanzhou New Area’s working committee. He saidthat lack of new development space is the reason why Lanzhou falls behind surrounding cities. Now the new area will grow the economy, and help Lanzhou solve many problems such as pollution, traffic jam, low level of tertiary industry, etc.

The silk road economic belt strategy also brings new opportunities for the new area. One the one hand, Lanzhou is turning into the transportation hub and a golden path as well in northwest China, connecting eastern Chinese cities with central and western Asia. On the other hand, as one of the key logistics bases, it can transport foreign goods and its own characteristic products through its bonded areas.
