Lanzhou New Area, covering a planned area of about 821 square kilometers, is the fifth state-level new area located to the north of Lanzhou City in Gansu Province. On August 20, 2012, China's State Council approved the Lanzhou New Area and its construction guidelines. In the past five years, the new area invested 86 million yuan in infrastructure construction, including road, water supply, gas, electricity, telecommunications and other facilities, in its 120-square-kilometer core area. A total of 16 kindergartens, 12 primary and middle schools and six hospitals have completed construction and been put into operation. Some 30 shopping complexes with a total construction area of 13.84 million square meters have been built up and several tourism projects like Western China Dinosaur Park and Great Wall Film Studio have also been launched.
