Dubbed "the First Ancient Town along the Yellow River," the Qingcheng Ancient Town in Lanzhou City, Gansu Province, boasts abundant intangible cultural heritages. Being one of the distinctive folk custom performances, Qingcheng Chaishan is a kind of animal farce that has been handed down for generations. Made of benches on stage, Chaishan, literally meaning Chai Mountain in Chinese, is the main background of the farce and a lion, a gorilla and a monkey are three main characters. Farmer troupes usually perform the farce at the ancient town on January 15 and 16 of the Chinese lunar calendar. [Photo/Gscn.com.cn]
