Located in Lanzhou, Gansu, the Lanzhou Institute of Physics, under the Chinese Academy of Space Technology, is the westernmost aerospace research facility in China and has contributed greatly to the development of China’s fast-growing aerospace industry in recent years.

The LIP’s extensive product lines range from pressure vessels, to surface engineering products, to atomic frequency standard. These products have been applied to a large number of spacecrafts, from China’s first artificial earth satellite Dong Fang Hong 1 to Shenzhou spaceships to guided missiles.

The president of the institute Zhang Weiwen said that relying on strong technological strengths, the institute had undertaken hundreds of scientific research projects, achieved some 400 national technology awards and 800 patents.

The institute also made great efforts to promote scientific knowledge in schools and universities across Lanzhou. More than 4,000 people in Gansu province enjoyed their science popularization services in the past two year.
